Smiley's Manhattan Sale

Does anybody know about Smiley's once-a-year Manhattan yarn sale?? Is it worth the 4$ trip cost? From their yarn listing, it looks like you have to buy yarn by the bag...is that true? And they don't list the two yarns I'm most interested in - Paton's Kroy, and Classic Wool. Carrie, Wendy, anybody in NYC - want to meet me there? I'm thinking of just dropping everything and going tomorrow....

I was toying with the idea of going tomorrow during my break before class but i don't know if i want to cary several bags of yarn with me till 10 pm. Then travel from 112 and broadway home to bayridge. Seriously, if i go, i'm gathering as much Lily Elite cotton as i can for a log cabin blanket. Actually, Several log cabin blankets. Go for broke!

Shoot, I was in that neighborhood tonight with time to kill! I could have scoped it out for you. Instead I sat in Borders and knit. :(
I could use some more Classic Wool myself. You can never have too much of that stuff.

Oh. My. Goodness!! I hadn't heard and I SO, SO wish I had money to spare. Alas, I will sit at home and knit, pretending I never heard of this. :P

Ok. I went yesterday and am going back today after work. i don't recall seeing patons and i was sad. i picked up a bag of bernat sox.

they take cash or check. no credit cards. there is an ATM at the hotel.

i was told that first day is nuts; today and onward is better... but things sell out.

they also have susan bates needles 14" straight and 29" circs. circs are $4 each.

i didn't recall seeing the cotton-ease but that is part of why i'm going back.

hope this helps.

oh and the line can get QUITE long but it moves pretty fast.

I saw Cotton Ease there! All of the yarns are sold by the bag, but sometimes a bag is just 4 balls (for ex, for the cashmere and the chenille, for Cotton Ease it's 3 balls per bag). I got a 10 ball bag of 100% tweed wool for $30! All of the notions (stitch holders, stitch markers etc) are $1.50.
I went tuesday at 6pm, and the lines moved very quickly. It wasn't overly crowded. Hope this helps!

I think that it's worth going to.
I love going, but I had to refrain this year. I still have so much yarn from the last several years. Each year I walk out with 2 trash bags full of yarn!
